Am back to reality after a week on Martha’s Vineyard. I sailed, relaxed on the beach, shopped and ate well. And I had more ice cream than any human being should ever consume. My best friend was with us this year (that’s us!). I brought four books with me and was SO looking forward to reading them. Ended up bagging on two of them – one teen book, one adult. The adult book was soooooo boring. My god, after 50 pages I was still like, “OK, is anything going to happen?” Quit the teen book after 60 pages because I couldn’t stand the character. She was supposed to be 17 but she acted like she was 14. It drove me nuts!! I hate when teen books have characters that feel waaaay younger than the age they are supposed to be. There was also a nine year old (the main character was a counselor at a camp) and she acted like a 6 year old!! As someone with a 10 year old kid, I can attest to the fact that no self-respecting 9 year old would be a sniveling wreck who preferred to hold someone’s hand over running around going nuts with her friends. Ended up reading a non-fiction book about the financial crisis, and it was way more entertaining than the other two. Such a disappointment. So my quest for a new fiction book continues…
